Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra picked the four players Royal Challengers Bangalore should look to retain ahead of IPL 2022. With the mega auction all but certain to occur, BCCI has announced that ten teams would partake in IPL 2022. Aakash Chopra conjured AB de Villiers amongst the four players that Royal Challengers Bangalore are likely to keep, bearing in mind the retention policy.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore are one of the most popular teams in IPL; however, they have not won any trophy thus far, having reached the finals thrice. The Bangalore-based franchise has always had a formidable batting line-up, but they have lacked a potent bowling combination. Nevertheless, it has seemed to change since IPL 2020 as the outfit has performed well even in death overs.
Aakash Chopra started by commenting that other than Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, no other franchise can look to retain four players. The 43-year old stated that looking towards Bangalore, their first name would be Virat Kohli, followed by AB de Villiers.
“Other than the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals, I don’t see another franchise who can retain four players. If you look towards RCB, then Virat Kohli will be the first retention, the second retention will be AB de Villiers,” Chopra told in his Youtube channel.
In fact, I will want to retain three Indians: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra further said that Devdutt Padikkal or Yuzvendra Chahal would be amongst them, remarking he prefers to retain three Indian cricketers. Hence, the cricketer-turned-commentator named three domestic players and one overseas contingent in AB de Villiers.
“For the third, I will be thinking about Yuzi Chahal and Devdutt Padikkal, one out of them. In fact, I will want to retain three Indians, Yuzi Chahal, Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli – the three Indians and one overseas player in AB de Villiers. That’s it, so this is another team which can actually retain four players,” he added.
