Best Black Friday deals 2023 LIVE: Early discounts from Ninja, Shark, John Lewis, Argos, Very, Lakeland and more

But first up, when is Black Friday? Well, Black Friday doesn’t officially start until Friday 24th November in 2023. 

However, this year retailers have kicked off their Black Friday sales earlier than ever before. 

Popular mattress retailer Emma was one of the first brands to launch its Black Friday sale – at the end of October! – with up to 65% off its bestselling mattresses, closely followed by Black Friday sales at John Lewis & Partners, up to 40% off at Currys, and Black Friday sales at Argos and Very launching early November. 

We estimate that at least 50% of big name retailers now have Black Friday sales up and running, and we expect more Black Friday sales to launch early this week – although some retailers are holding firm and waiting for Black Friday itself on November 24th to begin discounting.

John Lewis is a firm favourite for quality Christmas decs and there are Christmas lights and baubles included in the early Black Friday discounts right now, with 20% off selected products.

The Lumie Bodyclock Spark 100 is a tried and tested personal recommendation – I quite literally use this every single day. 

It was top of my Christmas list last year, and I don’t know how I ever lived without it. It’s safe to say I’m not a morning person but this lamp and alarm clock has made waking up so much kinder – I’ve even started to make pre-work spin classes a regular habit! 

It works by gradually turning on a light for 30 minutes before your alarm goes off, so by the time you wake, you’re accustomed to a softly lit room. It’s easy to tap to snooze (guilty) and you can even wind down gradually to a sunset light setting.

This vacuum cleaner is why I personally favour Shark over Dyson. I have a Stratos vacuum at home – it’s compact, so easy to use and powers through pretty much everything in a flash.

Don’t just take my word for it – our review gave it a perfect score of five out of five stars. It’s currently discounted by a hefty £200 on the Shark website so now the perfect time to snap one up.

Black Friday week is most definitely the best time of year to be investing in a new vacuum cleaner. The discounts available now can stretch into several hundred pounds, meaning you’ll have a brand new vacuum in time for Christmas, as well as a few extra quid in your pocket that you would have otherwise lost out on if you bought it at another time of year.

Personally, when it comes to the big name brands, I rate Shark over Dyson. They’re cheaper, and in my opinion, they last longer (I have owned vacuum cleaners from both brands).

Here’s one I have genuinely invested in this year. Ever since I found out that a window vac is the very best way to remove condensation from windows, I have been meaning to buy one. And with Amazon’s 40% discount for Black Friday, I couldn’t really put it off any longer and one of these vacs is currently winging it’s way to me as I type!

Sure, there’s a more basic model available, but this version has a longer battery time (35 mins) and comes with a handy spray bottle with microfibre cloth and a free sachet of concentrated glass cleaning solution to keep my windows sparkling.

Alexa 1.5 Litre Smart Kettle | was £99.99, now £59.99 at Swan

The perfect gift for anyone who loves a cuppa, this Swan kettle will not only look good on any countertop, but because it has built-in voice control with Alexa, you can literally ask it to boil some water, wherever you are in your home.

We’re already fans of Sage’s kitchen appliances, they’re well designed, sturdy and built to last. And say no more about air fryers – they’re a must for any modern kitchen.  

But when we spotted this nifty model in Stanley Tucci’s kitchen, our Ecommerce Editor Molly Cleary simply had to test it out and her review proved that this beauty was a winner, hands down. It toasts, bakes, roasts, grills, air fries, reheats and slow cooks – a brilliant multitasking kitchen hero.

How to get a great Black Friday deal

While many brands have already started their Black Friday sales in advance of the big day next week, these prices are sure to fluctuate and you may end up caught in the excitement of seeing a great deal and end up buying something that you may not need (I speak from experience…)

However, having experienced Black Friday for many years – both for work and personally – here’s a little advice on what to do so you don’t get trigger happy with the ‘buy’ button on the big day.

Make a list of what you really need Don’t be temped to buy just because something is there. We’re all short of cash this year so make your pennies count. here are some serious bargains out there so make a list of the things that you really need at home of the gifts you know you want to buy.

Do your research Be specific with your shopping list. Try and do some prep work and read reviews for specific models or items (we have reviewed loads of products in our What to Buy section). Make sure the item you’re looking to purchase does and has everything you need. Also, try and find out the original RRP so you can see if the deal you eventually find is a good one. 

If in doubt, check Amazon Truth be told, if the product you’re looking for is sold on Amazon, it will most likely have the best deal going, though this price will fluctuate in the run up to Black Friday. Check out the Amazon’s WOW! deals page for limited offers (available for up to 8 hours or until they sell out) for the very best discounts.

Christmas collection | Save 25% at Habitat

It’s not strictly a Black Friday deal, but this 25% discount on Habitat’s new Christmas collection really is something to shout about. On my last visit to Sainsbury’s, I snapped up one of the Fir Balsam Cinnamon inclusion candles, which smells a lot like my favourite The White Company fir candle (but £30 less!) and these pretty mango wood stars. The only thing I’m kicking myself for not picking up is this mid-century Scandi-style Christmas tree trivet which is now only £6, which I am now 100% adding to my basket.

How to find a great Amazon Black Friday deal

Amazon has already kicked off its Black Friday sale, but unlike other Black Friday deals Amazon’s flexible pricing means you will need to be careful to ensure you actually score a bargain. After years of covering Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday here are the tricks that we use on the Ideal Home team to help us work out when something really is a bargain. 

1. Ideally you should do a little prep work and keep an eye on the fluctuating Amazon prices over the month leading up. However, if you haven’t done this, a good way to check Amazon hasn’t inflated the price to drop it down again is to check around other retailers first.

2. You can set up alerts for upcoming WOW deals. These only last for about 8 hours and usually have some of the biggest discounts on them. All you need to do is click on the Wow deal page and select ‘Watch this deal’ below any product you’re interested in.

3. Don’t just look at what Amazon’s original RRP says, check sights such as Camel Camel Camel to see what the highest price it’s been listed on Amazon has been. 

Woolroom Chatsworth Adjustable Wool Pillow | was £84.99, now £55.24 at Woolroom 

Everyone should take sleep seriously, and I do, but sometimes my purse doesn’t allow me to invest in the best quality bedding. That is until Black Friday comes around! I’ve had these adjustable wool pillows on my wishlist for the last year. 

Not only are they sustainable, but they’re made from wool which has temperature-regulating properties, which is ideal for me as a hot sleeper. If you need to prioritise one Black Friday deal this week, I’d highly recommend you spend it on improving your sleep, I know I will be.

Should you shop early Black Friday deals now or wait?

Black Friday is slowly becoming not just a singular day or weekend event, but rather a month-long affair during November. This can make it difficult to decide whether it’s worth hopping on deals now, or if you should hold out until the big day (which is just under a week away).

In short, it really depends on what you’re looking to pick up in this year’s sale. Most retailers’ deals are starting off pretty strong as they’re looking to compete with other retailers to offer shoppers the lowest prices early. However, there is also a chance that some are holding out until next Friday to reveal their best deals.

I live in a Victorian house – half our windows are double-glazed but the other half are single-glazed sash windows and they get covered in condensation which causes mould to form.

As a busy mum of twins, I’m always a fan of anything that makes life run a little smoother at home. I’ve got a few things on my Black Friday wish-list this year, and I’m sure I won’t be able to resist some of the amazing deals the Ideal Home team and I will be sharing over the event.

Ninja Foodi MAX Multi Cooker with SmartLid | was £309.99, now £199.99 at Amazon

If you want to really ensure value for money this Black Friday, a multi-cooker would be a great buy.

This already affordable electric blanket is now an even better price in the sales. It may be no-frills, but it does the job and offers an economical way to stay warm this winter.

Though this Silentnight one attaches to your bed, you can also shop throw electric blankets. The one I have from Dreamcatcher is my work-from-home essential, and also on sale on Amazon for Black Friday, down from £66.99 to £44.99. 

Henry Quick Cordless Vacuum | was £299.00, now £229.00 at Currys

Have you met Henry’s cordless companion, the Henry Quick? I tried it out for Ideal Home last year and loved it. Now it’s even more affordable thanks to Currys Black Friday deals.

Sage Barista Express Bean-to-Cup Coffee Machine | was £695.95, now £500.00 at John Lewis

This Sage machine is very similar to my own and now at such an excellent price with £129 off at John Lewis. If you want barista-quality coffee at home every day, then this is the Black Friday coffee machine deal for you. 

Dyson Omni-Glide Vacuum | was £299.99, now £199.99 at Dyson

This is a fantastic Dyson vacuum, which I’ve tested, and now you can snap it up for under £200. You don’t get those sort of prices often on Dyson vacs, and this one is a fairly new release too. 

It’s only engineered for hard floors however, so those with fully carpeted homes may want to steer clear.

I was doing some shopping myself on my lunch break and trying to find the best price on my favourite candle from Boy Smells. From what I can see, the best price out there is at Flannels, with Boy Cedar Stack down from £44.00 to £32.00. I know what I’m putting on my Christmas list!

Grind One Pod Coffee Machine | was £295.00 now £236.00 at Grind

I have this coffee machine myself and I think it’s great. I don’t have tonnes of room on my worktops, so I want to make sure that everything on display has both style and substance. 

This machine obviously looks very chic, but it also works really well to make great tasting coffee. It’s fairly back to basics in that the only controls you have adjust the length of the drink, but when you’re grabbing a cup to go in the morning, what more could you really need?

Now I just need the coffee pod box to show off those pretty pink capsules to complete the look.

Homcom 12L Dehumidifier | was £154.99 now £126.99 at Robert Dyas

While we’ve not tested this dehumidifier ourselves, it receives glowing reviews from consumers saying how efficient  and quiet it is. It has two speeds and three modes – auto, drying and sleep.

Cosy Borg Sherpa Cotton Duvet Cover and Pillowcase Set | was from £30.00 now from £24.00 at La Redoute

A nice 20% off makes this sumptuous bedding set look even more tempting. With colder temperatures on the horizon, I’m already working out how to prevent myself from needing the heating on too much, and this super-soft Sherpa set looks just the ticket and feels like a more luxe version of the Dunelm Teddy range.

These days it can seem that everyone and their mother has a Black Friday sale on which, of course, if one of the reasons why we’re here to help you sort through the chaff. 

However, not every brand partakes in the sales event, and one question we’re often asked is whether or not The White Company does Black Friday. The short answer? No, but in previous years they have had a ‘White Weekend’ which, if they stick to their routine, should start next Friday, 24th November.

Until then, they do have a sale section, which right now has some sheets, pillow cases and quilts on offer.

Tower T17039 Xpress Pro 5-in-1 Digital Air Fryer | was £119.99 now £89.11 at Amazon

Tower is a great affordable brand to consider for air fryers and they have some amazing deals on at the moment. 

This version, which boasts a 4.6 star average after a whopping nearly 18,000 ratings, has a handy clear panel so you can keep an eye on what you’re cooking, removable shelves so you can cook separate components in the same machine and even a rotisserie function.

There’s also a version for £69.99 if you prefer manual, rather than digital, settings

It’s no secret that the Ideal Home team is pretty into air fryers, but for speedy, healthy cooking they’re not the only option. One alternative is the multi-cooker, which can have an air fryer as one of its functions. But which one do you need?

P.S. I’m team multi-cooker, and swear by the Ninja Foodi MAX which has an insane 15 functions from air frying and pressure cooking to sautéing and slow cooking.

Kenwood kMX750 kMix Stand Mixer | was £419.99 now £200.00 at John Lewis & Partners

I feel like a good stand mixer is on everyone’s dream kitchen wishlist and, frankly, there’s no better option than the classic kMix. It fact, we crowned it to be the best stand mixer in our reviews.

This is an amazing discount, and while it’s only for the Cream colourway, you could alternatively pick it up in Red or Black for £229.99. Personally, I’m a big fan of the neutral so it’ll suit however my kitchen is decorated. 

Stop the presses – the cult Ninja Creami is officially back in stock! This ice cream and frozen dessert maker has been sold out for quite some time so we’ve been watching the Ninja site like a hawk for its reappearance.

While it’s not discounted, the mere fact that it’s available is reason enough to snap it up. I’ve been desperate for one ever since my colleague tested it last month and hasn’t stopped raving about it since. 

Simba Hybrid Pillow | was £109 now £81.75 at Simba 

We take sleep seriously here at Ideal Home, and our reviewers were in agreement that this Simba pillow, although pricy, is one of the best there is – especially for side sleepers (hi, it’s me!)

It’s got these foam ‘nanocubes’ that can be removed or re-added so you can adjust away to make sure it’s the perfect height every night.

This Black Friday, eBay is offering shoppers a further 40% off top refurbished Dyson products with the code DYSONBF40.

So if you’ve always wanted one of their products and aren’t wedded to it being brand new, this could be your time. My current favourite deal has to be the Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner, down from £329.99 to £167.99 when you use the code above.

Philips Series 800 Air Purifier AC0820/30 | was £155.00 now £90.00 at Argos

With £65 currently off, this model is a nicely affordable buy. It’s small but mighty as it can deal with rooms up to 49m² but isn’t noisy, and in sleep mode it operates in near silence and dims the display lights.

While we’ve not tested this model ourselves, the reviews are glowing, with 96% of customers saying they would recommend it.

Blinds2Go Black Friday sale is live and kicking

Window dressings make all the difference to a space, adding a focal point, a splash of colour or pattern, creating a sense of privacy and, come winter, can help to keep your home warm and cosy.

Black Friday 2023 is on Friday, the 24th of November (aka next Friday). 

In recent years, however, sales from retailers have been launching earlier and earlier in November, meaning that it’s more like a Black Friday month than just one day.
