Still got your ODI cap, Jimmy? Stuart Broad And James Anderson Engage In A Twitter Banter As England Announces A Fresh ODI Squad Due To Covid

Veteran England pacers Stuart Broad and James Anderson engaged in a banter on Twitter on Monday after the ECB revealed that owing to seven members of the English squad getting infected with Covid, a new squad led by Ben Stokes will be announced to lock horns with Pakistan in the upcoming ODI series.

With England being forced to announce a fresh squad, Stuart Broad asked James Anderson if he has still got his ODI cap.

James Anderson last played an ODI for England in 2015 while Stuart Broad did the same in 2016 and since then both have been plying their trade solely in Test cricket.

‘’Still got your ODI cap @jimmy9 ?!” Broad tweeted.

To which James Anderson replied-

‘’It’s still this kit, right?!” Broad went on before former all-rounder Ravi Bopara joined the duo in the back and forth.

Meanwhile, England has announced a fresh 18-men squad for the ODI series against Pakistan.

The squad will be led by Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes, who is on a comeback trail after having suffered an injury during his IPL 2021 stint with the Rajasthan Royals.

Commenting on the fresh squad which consists of several uncapped cricketers, England’s  Managing Director, Ashley Giles, said that the upcoming series is a great opportunity for the fringe players to leave an impression with their performances.

‘’It’s a great opportunity to play on the biggest stage, and for most of the players selected it’s not necessarily something they would have been expecting 24 hours ago,” Ashley Giles said.

“It’s an exciting group of players, with some young talent and some players who have impressed at domestic level over a long period of time,’’ he added.

“We’re in unprecedented territory, in terms of replacing an entire squad and management team, and I’m very proud of how everyone has come together in order to get it done – both those within the ECB and from the county game,’’ he said.

The three-match ODI series between world champions England and Pakistan will kickstart at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff from July 08.
