UP Board Class 10, 12 Exam 2024 begins, 16% of the registered students skip paper

Prayagraj: The board exam of high school and intermediate for the year 2024, conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UP Board) commenced from Thursday amidst tight security at all the 8265 examination centers in the state wherein around 16% of the registered students skipped the exam.
The exams were held under the surveillance of CCTV cameras equipped with voice recorders at all the exams centers. Along with this, the examinations were also completed safely in eight jail centers established for the candidates detained in different jails of the state.
According to Board Secretary, Dibyakant Shukla, “In the first shift, exam for High School Hindi and Elementary Hindi subject and for Intermediate Military Science subject was conducted. In the second shift, High school commerce and intermediate Hindi and general Hindi examinations were completed”.
Out of the total of 29,43,786 candidates registered in the first shift, 2,03,299 candidates (around 14%) remained absent and out of the total 24,67,715 candidates registered in the second shift examination, 1,30,242 candidates (around 19%) remained absent. Thus, a total of 3,33,541 i.e. 16.20% candidates remained absent in the examination of both the shifts.
On the first day of exam, five candidates were caught using unfair means in the high school examination, in which four were boys and one female student.
A first information report was lodged against a total of seven impersonators caught in the first shift examination and on one center administrator, informed Shukla.
According to the information received from the divisions/districts via telephone/email, no untoward situation was reported in any district during the examination and the examination was conducted in a fair and peaceful manner.
In view of the security of question papers, online intensive monitoring of strong rooms and examination centers has been done this year.
“For the first time, command and control room has been set up at the Board’s headquarters here at Prayagraj and also at all the five regional offices of the Board”, said the Secretary. Along with this, an online monitoring of examination centers has been set up a command and control room in the Vidya Samiksha Kendra building in Lucknow, he added.
