Northwestern University has eliminated 425 staff positions and cut its staff budget by 5% following the loss of US federal research funding. According to an internal email cited by the Evanston RoundTable, half the roles were already vacant. Previous cost-saving measures proved insufficient to close the budget gap. The university is also contending with rising operational costs and potential federal changes, including constraints on international student enrolment and reductions in research funding.
