Defense Minister to Mark Delivery of 2,000th Aero-Engine at HAL Koraput Today
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the milestone event marking the delivery of the 2,000th aero-engine by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Koraput Division, in Odisha today, October 6, 2026.
The landmark event will highlight nearly six decades of HAL Koraput’s contribution to India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing capabilities and its role in strengthening the operational readiness of the Armed Forces.
The event will also showcase the establishment of a second production line for Shakti engines, involving an investment of ₹218 crore. The additional production capacity is aimed at meeting the growing requirements of indigenous helicopter platforms, including the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and Prachand Light Combat Helicopter (LCH).
The milestone reflects the government’s vision of transforming India from a buyer of defence equipment into a designer, developer and manufacturer of advanced defence systems. Strengthening indigenous aero-engine capabilities remains a key part of this objective, considering the strategic importance and technological complexity of propulsion systems.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Secretary (Defence Production) Sanjeev Kumar and HAL CMD Ravi K, among other senior officials, are scheduled to attend the event.
