New Delhi: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of 10 senior officers to key international assignments while also extending the overseas tenure of a senior official at the World Bank.
The appointments, cleared on August 5, cover prestigious positions at global institutions such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Trade Organization (WTO), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and Indian diplomatic missions across Tokyo, Rome, Washington D.C., Geneva, and Kathmandu.
Brij Mohan Mishra, a 2008-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has been appointed Minister (Economic & Commercial) at the Embassy of India in Tokyo. He will succeed Debjani Chakrabarti after the completion of her tenure in April 2027.
Balamurugan D., a 2005-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has been posted as Minister (Agriculture) at the Indian Embassy in Rome for a three-year tenure. He will take over from Jujjavarapu Balaji after December 2026.
Baldeo Purushartha, IAS (Punjab:2002) and Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, has been selected as Senior Adviser to the Executive Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Manila, for three years.
Rahul Jain, IAS (Madhya Pradesh:2005) and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has been appointed Senior Adviser to the Executive Director (India) at the IMF, Washington D.C. for a three-year term.
Satyajit Mohanty, IRS (Customs & Indirect Taxes:1999) and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, has been appointed as India’s Representative to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada. He will assume the assignment after the incumbent completes his tenure in September 2026.
The ACC has also approved a two-year extension of Hemang Jani’s foreign assignment as Senior Adviser to the Executive Director at the World Bank, Washington D.C.
His tenure, originally ending on July 16, 2027, has now been extended until July 16, 2029, or until a successor takes charge, whichever is earlier.
Kapil Patidar, Indian Economic Service (IES:2011) and Director in the Department of Economic Affairs, has been appointed Adviser to the Executive Director (India) at the IMF, Washington D.C. for three years.
Gopalakrishnan Ganesan, Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS:2009) and Director in the Ministry of Steel, will serve as Counsellor (Economic) in the Economic Wing of the Indian Embassy in Washington D.C., succeeding Vivek Chaudhary after August 2026.
Aditya Rajendra Bhojgadhiya, Indian Audit & Accounts Service (IA&AS:2013) and Joint Director at the National Testing Agency, has been appointed First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.
Jivisha Joshi Gangopadhyay, Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS:2013) and Deputy Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), has been appointed First Secretary (Legal) at India’s Permanent Mission to the WTO, Geneva.
Subhash Kumar, Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS:2011) and Director in the Ministry of Defence, has been appointed Director at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal, succeeding the outgoing incumbent after November 2026.
The latest ACC decisions reinforce the government’s strategy of deploying experienced civil servants to represent India’s interests across major multilateral institutions and diplomatic missions, while strengthening the country’s engagement with key international organizations.
