Dr. Komal Kapoor assumes charge as CMD & Director (Technical) of ECIL

New Delhi, July 22, 2026: Distinguished scientist Dr. Komal Kapoor has taken over as the Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) and Director (Technical) of Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), a Schedule ‘A’ Miniratna Category-I CPSE under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).

Before assuming this role, Dr. Kapoor served as the Chief Executive of the Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC). A metallurgical engineer by profession, he joined the 33rd Batch of the BARC Training School, Mumbai, in 1989 and has devoted over three decades to strengthening India’s nuclear fuel ecosystem.

He earned his Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from IIT Bombay and is also an Adjunct Professor at Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) and a Guest Faculty at the University of Hyderabad.

Over the years, Dr. Kapoor has played a defining role in advancing India’s nuclear fuel programme. He has spearheaded key fuel cycle facilities and is leading the development of a major greenfield nuclear fuel project in Kota, Rajasthan, designed to support the country’s next generation of nuclear reactors.

Renowned for his expertise in nuclear materials, fuel technology, and reactor-grade metallurgy, Dr. Kapoor has championed initiatives that enhanced fuel quality, strengthened radiological safety, and accelerated research collaborations with leading national and international institutions.

His exceptional contribution to the field has earned him several prestigious honours, including the NMD Young Metallurgist Award from the Ministry of Steel, Government of India.

With Dr. Kapoor at the helm, ECIL is expected to further accelerate innovation and reinforce its leadership in strategic electronics, nuclear technology, defence, and indigenous technological development.
