The Jefferson County Public Schools Board has approved the merger of Whitney Young and Engelhard elementary schools for the 2025-2026 school year. This decision aims to address low enrollment and overcrowding, with Whitney Young relocating and merging with Engelhard. Sixth-grade students from Hudson Middle School will move to Whitney Young’s building, while seventh and eighth graders will stay at their current location. The district also plans to open a new school building by 2027.
