The meeting between the two leaders comes amid heightened tensions surrounding Trump’s trade tariffs on several countries, his controversial Gaza peace plan, and his ongoing mass deportation of illegal immigrants. These issues are likely to feature prominently in their discussions as both leaders seek to strengthen bilateral ties.
PM Modi will be the fourth global leader to meet Trump at the White House since his inauguration on January 20. The US President has already hosted Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan’s King Abdullah during the early weeks of his second presidency.

The prime minister’s visit to the American capital comes days after the Trump administration deported 104 Indians in handcuffs and shackles on a military aircraft that sparked outrage in India.

Trump To Sign Order On Reciprocal Tariffs Ahead Of PM Modi’s US Visit
US President Donald Trump committed Wednesday to announcing “reciprocal tariffs” on other countries, saying he could sign an order for them within a day, a move that could open new fronts in a trade war.
During election campaigning, Trump had promised: “An eye for an eye, a tariff for a tariff, same exact amount.”
Analysts expect reciprocal duties involve hiking tariff rates on US imports to match the rate that exporting countries charge on American products.
