Leading mining companies NMDC Limited and Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration in rare earth elements and associated minerals.

The agreement aims to develop a sustainable and integrated critical mineral supply chain in India, with a focus on exploration, R&D expansion, and environmentally responsible mining practices.

The MoU was signed at NMDC headquarters in Hyderabad in the presence of Amitava Mukherjee and Roopwant Singh, along with senior officials from both organizations.

Effective from March 16, 2026, for a period of two years, the agreement proposes the formation of a Steering Committee and Working Group to drive collaboration. The partnership may also explore joint ventures and strategic alliances in the future.

This move is expected to accelerate India’s rare earth mining capabilities and strengthen downstream industries aligned with national priorities such as energy security and defence.
