Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has emerged as the successful bidder for a 150 MW / 300 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at Kalikiri, Andhra Pradesh.
The project, awarded under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route and implemented through the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, is supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF).
This initiative aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s plan to develop 1,000 MW / 2,000 MWh of BESS capacity, enhancing grid stability, renewable energy integration, and peak load management.
As of December 31, 2025, POWERGRID operates 287 substations, over 1.81 lakh circuit km of transmission lines, and maintains system availability above 99.84%.
