PVUNL achieves landmark 1600 MW capacity; contributes to NTPC Group achieving 90 GW

Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), a subsidiary of NTPC in JV with JBVNL (Govt of Jharkhand), achieved a major milestone with the successful trial operation of Unit-2(800MW) of the Patratu Super Thermal Power Project on 11 May 2026, taking PVUNL’s installed capacity to 1600 MW. With this, NTPC Group’s total installed capacity has crossed the landmark 90 + GW mark.

Shri Ashok Kumar Sehgal, CEO, PVUNL shared that with the commissioning of Unit-2, PVUNL has emerged as a transformational project for Jharkhand’s energy landscape. 85% of power is allocated to Jharkhand, strengthening the state’s energy security and supporting the present as well as future industrial and economic growth.

This achievement follows the Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) of Unit-1 on 05.11.2025 and full load achievement of Unit-2 in March 2026. During FY 2025-26, PVUNL generated 2,062.90 MUs. The work for Unit-3 is progressing in full pace and targeted to commission in FY 26-27.

Based on advanced USC technology, ACC, 100% dry ash system, PVUNL represents the future of sustainable thermal power generation and continues to focus on skill development and capability building of people for creating a future-ready workforce.

Further Shri A K Sehgal, said that PVUNL and NTPC remain committed to providing reliable power in the most sustainable manner contributing to the growth of nation’s power sector and continues to strive towards timely completion of the ongoing and future projects.
