REC Limited, a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Power, has received clearance from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) for the issuance of Rs. 5,000 crore worth of Zero Coupon Bonds (ZCBs) with a tenure of 10.5 years. Notified via CBDT Notification No. 52/2025, these bonds will be issued at a deep discount and redeemed at face value, offering notable tax advantages to investors.

Following the overwhelming response to a similar issue in FY 2024–25—where demand nearly touched seven times the offer—REC is leveraging this innovative financial tool to strengthen funding for India’s growing energy infrastructure at competitive market rates.
