Several IPS officers reassigned in extensive Administrative Realignment in Bihar

In a far-reaching restructuring of the state’s policing framework, the Bihar Government has undertaken a major reshuffle involving 27 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. The sweeping exercise is aimed at reinforcing law enforcement capabilities, enhancing district-level administration, and strengthening specialized police units across Bihar.

Among the key appointments, Kumar Gautam (IPS: 2011) has been entrusted with the responsibility of Superintendent of Police (SP), Bettiah, while Upendra Nath Verma takes charge as SP, Aurangabad. Bhanu Pratap Singh has been posted as SP, Khagaria, and Shikhar Chaudhary has been appointed SP of Kaimur district.

The Bihar Government has also repositioned several officers within the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP). Rakesh Kumar has been named Commandant of BSAP-5, Patna, while Harimohan Shukla assumes command of BSAP-7, Katihar. Aparajit Lohan has been appointed Commandant of BSAP-16, Patna.

In strategic security and intelligence assignments, Baliram Kumar Chaudhary has been posted as SP (Security), Special Branch, Patna, while Sweety Sehrawat takes over as SP (G), Special Branch. Ramanand Kaushal has been assigned as SP, Crime Investigation Department (CID), further strengthening the state’s investigative apparatus.

In a notable move, Shaurya Suman has been elevated as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Purnia, a key district in Bihar’s policing landscape. Meanwhile, Ambarish Rahul and Chandra Prakash have been posted as Assistant Directors at the Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir. Chandra Prakash will additionally oversee the role of SP, Cyber Crime and Security Unit, Patna, reflecting the growing emphasis on cyber security and digital policing.

Several district police units have also received new leadership. Himanshu has been appointed SP, Sheikhpura; Amitesh Kumar as SP, Banka; Rajesh Kumar as SP, Bagaha; Shubhank Mishra as SP, Vaishali; Vikram Sihag as SP, Saharsa; Kota Kiran Kumar as SP, Jehanabad; Parichay Kumar as SP, Katihar; and Shailendra Singh as SP, Sheohar.

The reshuffle also brings fresh leadership to urban policing. Shailaja has been appointed City SP (East), Patna City, while Sanket Kumar takes charge as City SP (West), Patna. Atulesh Jha has been posted as City SP, Bhagalpur, and Abhinav as City SP, Gaya.

Further strengthening district administration, Divyanjali Jaiswal has been appointed Rural SP, Gaya, while Sakshi Kumari takes over as the new Rural SP, Darbhanga.

The extensive IPS reshuffle signals Bihar’s continued focus on modernizing its policing architecture, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring robust law-and-order management across urban and rural regions alike.
