Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has carried out a major police reshuffle, transferring and posting eight IPS officers to different positions across the state. The orders were issued on administrative grounds and will take effect immediately.
The transfer notification was issued by the Department of Home Affairs, Home-I Branch, on September 1, 2026, following approval from the competent authority.
Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, IPS (SPS:2004), who was awaiting a new assignment, has been posted as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Border Range, Amritsar. He will take over the position from Harmanbir Singh.
Harmanbir Singh, IPS (SPS:2010), who was serving as DIG, Border Range, Amritsar, while also holding additional charge as Commissioner of Police, Amritsar, has now been appointed Commissioner of Police, Amritsar.
Key SSP-Level Changes in Punjab:
The reshuffle includes several changes involving SSPs across Punjab.
Bhagirath Singh Meena, IPS (RR:2013), who was serving as SSP Mansa, has been moved to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG), Personnel-1, Central Police Organisation (CPO), Punjab. He replaces Suhail Qasim Mir.
Varun Sharma, IPS (RR:2014), has been transferred from his post as SSP Patiala and appointed SSP, SAS Nagar (Mohali).
In a corresponding move, Harman Deep Singh Hans, IPS (RR:2015), who was serving as SSP SAS Nagar, has been posted as SSP Patiala.
Bathinda and Mansa Also See New SSPs:
Suhail Qasim Mir, IPS (RR:2017), formerly AIG, Personnel-1, CPO Punjab, has been appointed SSP Bathinda, replacing Jyoti Yadav.
Jyoti Yadav, IPS (RR:2019), has been transferred from SSP Bathinda and posted as Commandant, 82nd Battalion, Punjab Armed Police (PAP), Chandigarh. She replaces Balwinder Singh, PPS.
Meanwhile, Vaibhav Choudhary, IPS (RR:2020), who was serving as SP Headquarters, Patiala, has been posted as SSP Mansa, succeeding Bhagirath Singh Meena.
All eight officers covered by the Punjab IPS transfer order have been directed to assume their new responsibilities without delay.
The order has been issued under the authority of the Punjab Department of Home Affairs (Home-I Branch) and carries the approval of the competent authority. It was signed by Alok Shekhar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Punjab.
The latest Punjab police reshuffle brings changes to key field and organisational positions, including Amritsar, Patiala, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Bathinda and Mansa, as the state government reassigns senior police officers across the department.
