Tamil Nadu has decided to maintain the ‘no-detention policy’ up to Class 8, despite the central government’s recent amendment to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2010. The new rules allow detaining students in Class 5 and 8 if they fail exams, though re-examination and additional instruction will be provided to struggling students before any detention.
