Key NDA allies JDU and LJP have criticized Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s decision to stop the two-hour Friday break for Muslim MLAs to offer namaz in the state assembly. Sarma defended the move, saying it was a consensus decision among both Hindu and Muslim legislators, ending a practice that began in 1937.
